Govopoly

Rule. Reform. Repeat

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to run your own economy? That’s exactly what we explored in our recent classroom activity—and it was both fun and educational!

As part of an Economics lesson on Government decision-making, the classroom was turned into a simulated economy where students took on roles as governing bodies of Niger, Chad, Spain and U.A.E. The main objective of the activity was to understand how economic decisions are made and how they affect the economy.

The students were divided into 4 countries. Each country was to select one policy per month for a period of twelve months before the country goes in for Elections. As each policy was chosen, the immediate impact on the major goals were reflected in the form of points. At the end of the session, the winners emerged from the country that had high government scores.

This activity wasn’t just about economics—it was about teamwork, critical thinking, and decision-making under pressure. It gave the students a fresh appreciation for the complexity of government decision on both the economy and the governance.
