Discovering Density @ CPS Global School, Anna Nagar

Written by cpsglobalblog

This week, our enthusiastic IG Year 1 students rolled up their sleeves and dived into one of science’s most fundamental yet fascinating concepts—density!

In our latest practical lab session, students explored how the mass and volume of an object determine its density. The experiment allowed them to go beyond textbooks and experience firsthand how different materials behave, float, or sink based on their density.

They inferred that density is a unique property of a material and doesn’t change with size or shape and the practical importance of precision and teamwork in scientific measurements.

Understanding density is key not only in physics but also in real-world applications—from designing boats and aircraft to understanding layers of Earth’s atmosphere or even why hot air balloons rise. The hands-on nature of this experiment encouraged curiosity, critical thinking, and collaboration—skills that form the foundation of scientific learning.

Stay tuned as our budding scientists continue to explore more exciting experiments in the IG Science Lab!
