This week in French class, our learners participated in a speaking activity focused on one of the most essential parts of communication: salutations (greetings). The goal was to help learners gain confidence using basic French phrases in real-life conversational settings.
Learners worked in pairs to create and perform short dialogues using common French greetings. The required expressions included: “Bonjour / Salut” , “Comment tu t’appelles ?” , “Ça va ? / Comment ça va ?”, “Je m’appelle…”, “À bientôt / Au revoir”
Before the activity, we reviewed pronunciation, tone, and polite conversational structure. Learners were encouraged to be creative with their interactions — some imagined meeting at school, others at a café or on vacation. They then performed their dialogues in front of small groups or the whole class, depending on comfort level.
This activity served as a strong foundation for building oral communication skills in French.
In the meantime, I encourage students to greet each other in French outside of class — even a simple “Bonjour!” in the hallway can make a big difference in language learning.
À la prochaine !
