A Day of Discovery at IIT Madras The Open House Visit @ CPS Global School, Anna Nagar

Written by cpsglobalblog

As part of the The Open House initiative, our students had an enriching and inspiring visit to IIT Madras, one of India’s premier institutes of science and technology. The visit was designed to give students hands-on exposure to real-world applications of science, engineering, and technology, beyond classroom learning. Throughout the day, students explored multiple laboratories, interacted with concepts visually and practically, and experienced how science directly connects to everyday life.

The visit began at the Sports Science Lab, where students learned about projectile motion and how it plays a crucial role in various sports such as basketball, football, and athletics. Using graphical representations, they understood how angle, velocity, and gravity affect motion. An interesting discussion followed on diabetes and biomechanics, where students learned how walking patterns influence diabetic patients and how scientific analysis helps improve health and mobility. At the Chemical Engineering Lab, students witnessed exciting demonstrations

that made chemistry come alive. In the Nanotechnology Lab, students were introduced to semiconductors, learning how p-type and n-type materials are identified and assessed. They also explored carbon dioxide control methods, where CO₂ is broken down into carbon monoxide and methane for reuse as fuel—an innovative approach to reducing environmental pollution. The Physics Lab offered students exposure to foundational yet fascinating phenomena. Students also learned about thin films grown using lasers, a cutting-edge technique used in electronics and advanced materials. To make learning interactive, students participated in fun games designed to explain tensile strength and how buildings and civil structures withstand forces.

This visit to IIT Madras was more than just a tour—it was an eye-opening experience that allowed students to see science in action, understand its relevance, and imagine future possibilities. By interacting with real laboratories and experiments, students gained confidence, curiosity, and motivation to explore STEM fields further.
