At our school, we believe that young children learn best through hands-on and playful experiences. Keeping this in mind, our learners recently participated in a Mystery Box activity to help them explore coins and begin understanding their values in an enjoyable way.
During the activity, each child closed their eyes and picked one coin from the mystery box. Without looking, they carefully felt the coin and tried to identify it by noticing its size, shape, and texture. They then shared which coin they thought it was and what value it might have.
After guessing, the child opened their eyes to check the coin and see whether their answer was correct. This moment of self-checking created excitement and encouraged curiosity and participation among the learners.
Through this activity, children were able to recognise different coins and reinforce early money concepts in a meaningful way. It also helped build their thinking skills, observation abilities, and language development as they explained their ideas.
Simple, hands-on activities like the Mystery Box make learning about everyday concepts such as money more engaging and memorable.
