Our EY3A learners from CPS GS Thirumazhisai had an exciting and hands-on math activity where they explored 2D and 3D shapes through play, creativity and observation. The children were introduced to the idea that 2D shapes are flat, while 3D shapes are solid and can be touched, held and rolled.
To begin, the children took part in a Shape Hunt around the school. They identified real-life objects like bottles, ID cards, dice and balls and matched them to the correct 2D or 3D shape card. This simple activity helped them observe shapes in their surroundings with curiosity and confidence.
Another fun moment was the “Guess the Shape” activity, where children closed their eyes, picked a shape and identified its name by touch. The excitement on their faces as they confidently guessed sphere, circle or cube made the activity even more joyful.
Through these interactive experiences, our young learners not only understood the difference between 2D and 3D shapes but also developed strong observation skills. It was a wonderful day filled with learning, laughter and discovery!
