Our Early Years 3B students at CPS Global School, Thirumazhisai, recently indulged in an engaging hands-on exercise focused on CVC words. Children’s reading and phonics foundations were strengthened throughout this lively lesson in a happy, cooperative setting. As kids worked with vibrant, themed cut-outs that represented simple family words and items like “bag,” “red,” “pot,” and “cat,” the classroom was a hive of activity. Students’ reading confidence was increased as they practiced identifying letter sounds to read the words.
Through interaction and peer support, the activity made learning enjoyable and social for kids in addition to encouraging them to read. For each student, the process was made vivid and unforgettable through the use of tactile and visual resources. This method, which has its roots in the Cambridge Early Years philosophy, demonstrates how core skills develop in kids who are motivated and actively involved. Students were clearly enjoying this immersive learning experience, as evidenced by their collaboration and excitement.
Each time a word was sounded out and understood, it marked another step forward in their journey toward English literacy. Activities like these not only build strong academic foundations but also inspire a lifelong love for learning.
