Will it sink or will it float? – ELP 3B @ CPSGS ANN

Rocks in a river, Ice in a drink,

Some things float, some things sink!

      Well,

            What do you think?

Will it sink or will it float?

There seems a natural curiosity for kids to add things to water. A sink and float experiment is always a lot of fun and a great way to teach them about predicting and testing ideas.

We asked our children to collect small objects of different weights and materials (plastic, metal, wood) and a few larger objects. A pumpkin made the list too. Looking at the objects, children had to make a prediction about them –would it sink or float? They dropped the objects into the water one at a time and observed what happened.

Well, was their guess right? Some heavy things floated while some sank. Now why did that happen? Did the concept perplex them?

All we can tell you is that the look on their faces was priceless when they figured it all out!
