On 11th August 2026, CPS Global School, Thirumazhisai, celebrated Sandscape Day for EY1, EY2, and EY3 learners, offering an engaging day of sensory exploration, storytelling, creative activities, and hands-on learning with sand.
The excitement began with a specially created sand play area, where children eagerly stepped into the sand pits and enjoyed an engaging beach-like experience. They dug into the sand using spades, filled and emptied buckets, made shapes with moulds, scooped, poured, and built their own little sandy creations. Children experienced both dry and wet sand, discovering how the texture of sand changes when it is wet. As they explored and played together, they naturally developed their sensory awareness, fine and gross motor skills, coordination, creativity, and social interaction. The Texture Walk brought another exciting sensory experience as little feet explored different surfaces and children described how each texture felt.
Back in the classrooms, learners enjoyed an engaging storytelling session that further encouraged their curiosity and interest in sand.
Adding creativity to the celebration, each class participated in a different sand art activity. Our little artists enthusiastically created “Sand-Tastic Seascapes,” “Our Sandy Castles,” “Little Beach Builders,” and “Scuba Divers on the Sandy Seabed.” Children enjoyed sprinkling, spreading, and pasting real sand onto their artwork, creating beautiful textured 3D effects. They also coloured their customised scuba-diver pictures and created sandy ocean beds, making the experience both creative and enjoyable.
Sandscape Day beautifully combined sensory play, storytelling, art, exploration, and joyful learning, making it a truly exciting experience for our little learners!
