The new recruits of IBDP at CPS Global School, Thirumazhisai made their first appearance as eager learners. They were welcomed by their seniors, the students of IB2, in a warm Freshers’ Day induction event, helping their new transition be a smooth one. The classroom that had been empty for months was finally alive again, as the much anticipated IB year 1 batch arrived. As seniors, we take our jobs very seriously to make sure that the new students actually like they belong here from day one. We started off with the campus tour, which was honestly the perfect way to ease everyone in. Walking around, getting familiar with the spaces, and just being on their feet helped the new students loosen up and settle in.
The highlight of the day was definitely the IB Auction. It was fun, chaotic, and surprisingly meaningful. Students bid on “power-ups” like extra sleep, a healthy mind, and even a finished EE by summer. While everyone was busy outbidding each other, it also gave them a real sense of what actually matters in balancing along with other IB student attributes. We then had a subject card game where students were given Clue-based cards and had to guess the subject. These were not basic hints, but were actual topics that they would explore if they chose the subject, giving them a small but real insight into what each subject is really like.
We also had a quick round of activities, including a murder mystery. But the most real part of the day was the Seniors’ Q&A session. This is where the juniors opened up asking questions, sharing concerns, and just being honest. As IB2 students, we could see ourselves in them, the same way we stepped into this endeavour with the same mix of nervousness and curiosity. The day ended with the Head of School’s address. It gave everyone that final push of motivation, which set the tone for the DP journey ahead.
