“Helping one person might not change the world, but it could change the world for one person.”

The above quote has become the mantra of the students of IGCSE and IB at CPS Global School, Thirumazhisai. Over the last few weeks, we have committedly raised funds to provide villagers with prosthetic limbs and cataract surgeries through crowdfunding. As the name suggests, crowdfunding is a process of funding an initiative or project by collecting small amounts of money from a large group of people, typically on the internet. CPS Global School partnered with Fuel a Dream, a crowdfunding platform founded by Mr. Ranganath Thota for students, entrepreneurs, and innovators from all over India.

To transform the life of even one person is truly a privilege. The experience of crowdfunding itself has not only been rewarding in terms of being able to have a positive impact on people, but also eye-opening and educational. This initiative aims to raise INR 30,000 to 33,000, through a method of involving at least 25 potential donors towards the noble cause.

For our generation, the notion of social interaction over the phone can be a daunting task despite thriving technologically. I definitely imagined all the possible ways that we could fumble or embarrass myself. Luckily, FuelaDream had come to the rescue. They groomed us right from how to address a potential donor to conveying our message for the desired results. A little bit of statistics will help understand the overwhelming project. A whopping INR 5.99 lacs was raised by us with INR 4.07 lacs to support cataract surgery at Shankara Eye Hospital to help regain eyesight for 407 elders. INR 1.92 lacs was raised to support prosthetic leg replacement for 17 Villagers through this Freedom Trust project.

Through this initiative, we have not only positively impacted those less fortunate than us but also myself. The prospect of speaking to someone over the phone no longer fills us with anxiety. Being focused on a larger goal puts everything around you into perspective. Something as trivial as speaking to numerous adults on the phone no longer matters.

With that in mind, we sincerely urge you to make an effort to help the lives of those around you. You can not only impact a small part of the world but also become a better global citizen. In the wise words of Jana Stanfield,” [you] cannot do all the good that the world needs, but the world needs all the good [you] can do.”
