Written by cpsglobalblog

“Books and doors are the same thing. You open them, and you go through into another world.”

International Book Lovers Day was celebrated virtually with great enthusiasm at CPS Global School, Thirumazhisai, encourage bibliophiles, celebrate reading and literature, reading, and learning. Book Lovers Day is more about the appreciation of the art of reading, as well as good literature and definitely a chance to re-read a favorite book.

It is believed that one of the strongest and loudest tools of communication is reading. A special assembly was organized for the purpose wherein our special guest, Ms Sudha Uma Shankar, writer, journalist and a bibliophile shared her insights as to how to inculcate the flair for reading from early stages of learning. Our record holder tiny tot, Kiara Kaur articulated how she developed this love story with books. Spellbee wizards, Harpith and Harpita, through their innovative chat show shared trivia about reading skills and habits and the associated benefits.

How can a Book Lovers Day celebration not showcase the treasure chest of books.. we travelled to some many home libraries- students and teachers’ own collection of books.

Then followed the most interesting and fun time as Ms. Sudha conducted story telling sessions with the ELP to primary section students. She familiarised the middle school children with her thoughts about Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam in her recent book, _APJ Abdul Kalam: An illustrated story of a life_ published by DK Publications. In this book she narrates the story of a young boy from the small town of Rameswaram and his journey to greatness as India’s “missile man” and later, the People’s President. The students internalised the simplicity of Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam through simple living, high thinking philosophy.

The International Book Lovers Day helped to reminisce on the books that have had the greatest impact on your life and foster a love of literacy.
