Our Grade 5 learners engaged in a collaborative “Mystery Decimal Sort” activity to strengthen their understanding of place value and decimal decomposition. Working in groups, they analyzed different representations of decimal numbers, identifying correct and wrong ones. Through discussion and reasoning, students explored expressing a number in multiple ways using regrouping of hundreds, tens, ones, and decimal places. The activity encouraged critical thinking, mathematical communication, teamwork and helped develop a deeper conceptual understanding of decimals in an engaging and meaningful way.
