Under the Starlit Sky: A Night of Discovery at CPS Global School, Thirumazhisai

Written by cpsglobalblog

Beneath a sky glittering with countless stars, the Astronomy Club of CPS Global School hosted an unforgettable overnight observation session that beautifully combined learning, exploration, and moments of wonder. The event began with an engaging narration on the history of the telescope, explaining how early astronomers developed simple instruments that gradually evolved into powerful tools, transforming our understanding of the universe.

As the evening progressed, students gathered around a lively campfire where music, laughter, and cheerful conversations created a warm and joyful atmosphere. Surrounded by the calm of the night and the beauty of the open sky, students experienced a perfect balance of relaxation and intellectual curiosity. The practical astronomy session followed, introducing students to the use of a 50 mm telescope and a refractor telescope. They learned how telescopes collect and focus light, enabling the observation of distant celestial objects. With great excitement, students observed Sirius, the brightest star, the magnificent planet Jupiter, and the glowing Moon.

Students were also introduced to deep-sky observation techniques and gained insights into how astronomers study faraway cosmic objects. A highlight of the session was hands-on DSLR astrophotography, where students explored camera settings like ISO and shutter speed while capturing stunning constellations. An engaging discussion on Polaris helped students understand why it appears stationary due to Earth’s rotation. As dawn approached, the experience left students inspired, curious, and deeply connected to the wonders of the universe.
