Exploring Newton’s Law of Cooling: A Hands-On Student Experiment @ CPS Global School, Anna Nagar

Written by cpsglobalblog

What happens when a hot cup of tea is left on the table? Why does it cool faster at first and then slowly over time? Our students of IGCSE YR 1 recently explored these everyday questions through a hands-on science experiment based on Newton’s Law of Cooling and learning truly came alive! Instead of just reading about science from textbooks, students became young scientists. They heated water, measured its temperature, and carefully observed how it changed over time. With thermometers and stopwatches in hand, they learned that science is all about observing, questioning, and understanding the world around us.

This activity helped students connect classroom learning to real life. Concepts like heat and temperature are no longer abstract ideas—they are things students can see, measure, and explain. From excited discussions to carefully drawn graphs, the classroom was filled with curiosity and enthusiasm.
