A Day of Color, Creativity, and Sustainability at NIFT – A Story from Our Textile Workshop @ CPS Global School, Anna Nagar

Written by cpsglobalblog

Our art students set out to the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in Taramani, Chennai, excited for what promised to be a creative adventure. None of them knew just how inspiring the day would turn out to be — a perfect blend of nature, color, and sustainable artistry.

As they stepped onto the NIFT campus, the atmosphere buzzed with energy. The workshop began with a fascinating session on eco-friendly fabric printing techniques. What made it truly special was the emphasis on nature-based dyeing. Instead of harsh chemicals, they were introduced to the magic hidden within everyday fruits, vegetables, and flowers. Beetroot purples, turmeric yellows, spinach greens, marigold oranges — suddenly, our palette expanded into an earthy rainbow crafted entirely by nature. Watching these natural dyes come alive on fabric felt almost like watching tiny miracles unfold.

The second half of the workshop ushered us into hands-on experimentation. Tie and Dye turned into a joyful symphony of twisting, folding, dipping, and waiting eagerly to see what patterns would emerge. Eco-printing was an equally delightful surprise — pressing leaves and flowers onto fabric and seeing their shapes transfer so gracefully felt like capturing little pieces of nature forever. Our students were completely immersed, chatting excitedly as they explored new ideas, tested colors and created patterns that were as unique as they were beautiful. The workshop didn’t just teach techniques; it sparked curiosity, encouraged mindful creation, and strengthened our understanding of sustainable fashion.

By the end of the day, they walked away not just with printed fabrics, but with a newfound appreciation for the harmony between art and nature. It was an engaging, meaningful experience — one that left them inspired and eager to infuse these eco-friendly practices into our coursework and future projects.

A day well spent, a lesson well learned, and a story worth remembering.
