Worlds Within Words: Celebrating the Global Tapestry of English at Novaveta 2025 @ CPS Global School, TMZ

Written by cpsglobalblog

Who owns English? More than just a language, English is culture, tradition, pride, economic status, and a passkey to the global market. Although English arrived in India as the colonizer’s language, the various forms it has taken over the years shaped by globalization, technological evolution, and immigration are truly unfathomable. The children of CPS Global School celebrated and cherished the rich culture of the English language through Novaveta 2025. The Novaveta general assembly began with the little storytellers dressed as their favourite characters, embodying beloved story book and cartoons characters, parading with enthusiasm. The first graders explored the folk traditions of Europe through their performance of The More We Get Together, while the second graders instilled empowerment, strength, and confidence through the lyrics of the Australian song, I am unstoppable.

To light up the moment, the eighth graders brought to life a comical encounter between classic literary characters and modern-day personalities. And what would an English Day celebration be without classic and modern ballroom dance? The high school girls swept the floor with the flawless performances of the classic and modern rock waltz, exuding the elegance and grace of the Brits. Equally, the DP2 students paid tribute to modern British author J.K. Rowling by performing a themed musical piece. To honour Michael Jackson and showcase how English acts as a medium of resistance and identity, the high school boys danced to the tunes of Michael Jackson as well as modern American disco, pop, and jazz funk.

Last but not least, to demonstrate the evolution of the English language and how it does not belong to just one country the DP1 students performed a modern-day drama emphasizing the concept of World Englishes. Overall, Novaveta Day was a treat to the ears and soul. More importantly, the children learned about the richness of English literature, the traditions of various English-speaking countries, and the global nature of the English language.
