The SRM 3rd International FIDE Rapid Rating Open Chess Tournament, also known as the SRM Chairman’s Trophy, was held on July 13, 2025, drawing skilled players from across the country to showcase their strategic brilliance and mental stamina. The event, known for its competitive spirit and prestige, saw an outstanding performance by our young, promising talent—Steve Jerome of IGCSE Yr-2. In his first-ever international FIDE-rated tournament, Steve displayed remarkable skill and focus, scoring 6 points out of 9 rounds. Competing against seasoned players, he didn’t just hold his own—he triumphed. Steve won First Prize in the Best Unrated Category.
Steve’s consistent and strategic gameplay earned him a FIDE rating of 1597, a commendable debut that reflects his deep understanding of the game and competitive edge. His official rating will be published by FIDE on August 1, 2025, marking a significant milestone in his chess journey.
