If we simply ask children to write sentences to improve their skills, we know what is going to happen.
We are either going to face some hue and cry or some banal scene without any originality. We don’t want that happening! Do we?
As adults we understand the importance of creating grammatically correct sentences, but for a child there needs to be an element of play. Play is the universal language and we chose to talk puzzle language !
There are cryptic puzzles, picture and logical ones and many others to tease your brain.
Our children were given jigsaw word puzzle pieces with distinct colour coding for nouns, verbs and punctuation. The children were encouraged to construct their own sentences by applying the Hi5 rules of sentence framing. The excitement triggered creative sentences at lightning speed, no matter how silly their meaning!
Little geniuses in the making!
