Skip counting is an important part of early numeracy as it is a basic skill used in many different practices. Children use skip counting for basic tasks such as telling the time or dealing with money. It is important because these form a set of basic mathematical skills which is applied in and outside of the classroom. Sports, shopping or even counting large quantities are made easier by acquiring the ability to skip count.
Skip Counting Lacing Plates!
A simple activity with a powerful fortification for multiplication and quicker counting. Children had to lace the given numbered paper plate in 5’s by passing the lace through the punched holes. The activity kept the whole group engrossed and intrigued and it seemed as if they were in a contest with their self!
