Real Riches are riches Possessed Inside

Seen from space, our planet’s surface appears to be dominated by the color blue. The Earth appears blue because large bodies of saline water known as the oceans dominate the surface.  Such an Ocean is amazingly diverse with life ranging from smallest bacteria and viruses to the largest blue whale. These aquatic organisms are screened for antibacterial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antimicrobial, neuroprotective, analgesic, and antimalarial properties. They are used for new drug developments extensively across the world.

Students of grade IGYR to A level were taken to Marine Biotechnology Department of   National Institute of Ocean Technology whose mission is to develop world class technologies and their applications for sustainable utilization of ocean resources. Students were engaged in seeing and understanding the applications behind various Instruments like High pressure serial dilution and fermentor systems, GCMS, LCMS, Real Time PCR, Gel electrophoresis, Shakers, Bioreactors and Rotary Evaporators and also understood the method isolation of Secondary metabolites from Deep Sea Organisms.

The learners learnt that Marine environment is not only productive to discover novel entities but it is a tool to identify new cellular targets for therapeutic interventions.
